Dr. Mauro Pittiruti is a surgeon at the Catholic University Hospital in Rome, where he coordinates a multi-professional vascular access team responsible for the insertion of over 7,000 central venous access devices annually. With nearly 40 years of experience in the field of venous access, he is a recognized authority on the management and insertion of PICCs, Midlines, and other central venous catheters. He has contributed extensively to the development of clinical protocols, including the ISP (Safe Insertion of PICCs) and SIF protocols, aimed at minimizing complications in vascular access procedures. Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Pittiruti is a co-founder of several prominent organizations, including the Italian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SINPE), the Italian Group of Venous Access Devices (GAVeCeLT), and the WoCoVA Foundation (World Conference of Vascular Access). He is a prolific author of numerous scientific papers, book chapters, and textbooks on venous access. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was awarded the Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access in 2009.
