About
Dr. Kris Gommeren is a distinguished veterinarian and European Specialist in both Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM) and Emergency and Critical Care (ECVECC). He graduated from Ghent University in 2002, where he completed his internship and residency. He later earned his PhD, focusing on the effects of systemic inflammation on the cardiovascular system. Since 2009, he has led the Emergency and Critical Care service at the University of Liège, overseeing a large team of specialists, residents, and interns while managing thousands of emergency cases annually. Dr. Gommeren is a prominent figure in the veterinary community, having served as the president of the European Society of Emergency and Critical Care (EVECCS). He is a founding member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care UltraSound (VECCUS) interest group and a co-founder of the Animal Blood Bank Benelux. His clinical and research interests include point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), cardiovascular assessment in critically ill patients, fluid therapy, and fluid responsiveness. He is also a co-author of the textbook "The Essentials of Veterinary Point of Care Ultrasound: Pleural Space and Lung."
