Dr. Karen R. Muñana is a board-certified veterinary neurologist and a Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis. She furthered her expertise by completing a residency training program in neurology and neurosurgery, alongside a Master of Science degree, at Colorado State University. Since joining the faculty at NC State in 1996, she has dedicated her career to advancing the understanding and treatment of neurological conditions in companion animals. Dr. Muñana is widely recognized for her research on canine epilepsy, frequently leading clinical trials to evaluate novel diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions. Her professional contributions include serving as a member of the International Veterinary Epilepsy Task Force (IVETF) and participating in multiple American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) consensus panels regarding seizure management. She is a prolific author and speaker, having contributed extensively to veterinary textbooks and peer-reviewed journals, and is frequently invited to present at national and international veterinary conferences.
