Hermann Brugger is a distinguished physician and researcher who founded the Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine at Eurac Research in Bolzano, Italy, in 2009, serving as its head until 2022. He has dedicated his career to the study of emergency medicine in remote and high-altitude environments, contributing significantly to the field through his research on physiology and rescue operations. As an experienced emergency physician, he has participated in over 2,500 rescue missions in the Dolomites, providing him with extensive practical expertise that complements his academic work. In addition to his leadership at Eurac Research, Brugger has held an associate professorship at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria. He is a prominent figure in international medical organizations, having served as the President of the International Society for Mountain Medicine (ISMM) and as a past president of the International Commission for Mountain Emergency Medicine (ICAR MedCom). He is also recognized for his role in developing the terraXcube, an extreme climate simulator used for advanced physiological research.
