About
Helena Lage Ferreira is a distinguished veterinarian and virologist currently serving as a Professor at the School of Animal Science and Food Engineering at the University of São Paulo (FZEA-USP). She holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Unesp (2003) and a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Unicamp (2007). Her research focuses on the monitoring and study of emerging viruses, particularly within the One Health framework, where she coordinates the Previr-MCTI Project and serves on the INCT-One Steering Committee. In 2023, she was recognized by Forbes as one of the 100 PhD women in Agriculture. Throughout her career, Dr. Ferreira has held significant international research positions, including as an assistant researcher at Sciensano in Belgium (2008–2011) and as a visiting researcher at the USDA's Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (2017–2019). She has also served as the President of the Brazilian Society for Virology (2023–2024) and as the School Director of the Latin American Biotechnology Center (Cabbio). Her work is dedicated to developing diagnostic and control tools for viral emergencies, contributing extensively to the field of veterinary science and public health.
